Year 3/4 - Eucalyptus Class

Welcome to Eucalyptus Class!

This year we are called Eucalyptus Class.

Eucalyptuses, or eucalypti, are tall trees. Eucalypti are sometimes known as gum trees or stringybark trees. They are mostly found in Australia. From Australia, people took them to other places where the weather is mild. Now, they can be found in New Zealand, South America, southern Europe, northern Africa and also in the state of California in the United States.

There are more than 500 species, or types, of eucalyptus. Eucalypti have long, thin leaves which are light or dark green. Small flowers grow on eucalyptus trees. Eucalypti also have small woody capsules. Inside the capsules are seeds.

Some eucalyptus leaves contain an oil that has a strong smell. The oil is used in medicines. Eucalyptus wood is tough and durable and it is used to build things.

The Eucalyptus tree symbolises strength, abundance and protection.
