This Term's Learning

Termly Learning Bulletin - Term 1

In English, we are reading Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell as our guided reading text where we follow the story of Sophie, a once-upon-a-time shipwrecked baby, who ends up traversing the rooftops of Paris to find her long-lost mother. We are writing an autobiography, a discursive speech and finishing off with some narrative work.

In maths, our focus is on place value to get reacquainted with our number knowledge before we move onto exploring the four operations in further depth. It is fundamental that all children remain on top of their times tables and number bonds (accessible through TT Rock Stars and Numbots respectively) in order that they can access the learning.

In science, our learning will take us into the realm of physics and electricity.

In humanities, our focus will be geography where we'll be delving into the power of the Earth beneath the surface as we deepen our understanding of tectonic plates, earthquakes and volcanoes. In RE, we are finding out about how architecture and art is represented in different religious and spiritual beliefs. In art, we are exploring the surreal work of Frida Karlo and her portraits with the aim of producing our very own portraits. In DT, we are in the kitchen looking at street food and how easy such healthy and nutritious gastronomical delights can be to prepare. Finally, in PSHE we are discussing our own place in the world with respect to what others elsewhere are experiencing and how that often differs greatly to our own circumstances.
