This Term's Learning
Termly Learning Bulletin - Term 2
In English, we will be reading The Explorer as our guided reading text where four children become stranded in the Amazon and meet a mysterious loner... We will be writing our own narratives based in a foreign culture and setting, as well as exploring haiku and cinquain in poetry. As always with our reading and writing, we'll be looking to deepen our understanding of language and express ourselves in ever new and exciting ways.
In maths, for both year groups our main focus will be fractions where having strong and well-practised times tables will be of vital importance. We'll be becoming experts at understanding numerators and denominators and how we can convert fractions to compare, add and subtract. It's a dense unit and a great challenge for our learners.
In science, our learning will take us into the realm of forces and how they interact with each other. It's a great stepping stone for the following unit where we will begin to explore space in further detail.
In humanities, our focus will be geography where we'll be consolidating our understanding of place and location, becoming more familiar with the continents, countries and regions of the planet and the different patterns relating to climate and topography. In RE, we will be finding out about different places of worship in global religions and beliefs. In art, we are exploring printing whilst in DT we will look at fabrics and stitching to see if we can produce something hard-wearing and purposeful for everyday use. Finally, in PSHE we will discuss the importance of understanding, respecting and embracing difference.
