Independence

Promoting independence in children is essential for their overall development and future success. Age-appropriate tasks and routines can help to do this. By giving your kids responsibilities and allowing them to do things on their own, you are helping them develop important life skills and building their confidence.

Help them to independently put their coat, hat and gloves on, be self-sufficient when toileting, put their own things in their school bag or backpack, open packets at lunchtime, set the table at home and tidy up their toys.

Reading

Please share books regularly with your children at home.

Regular reading enhances attention span, focus, and memory, supporting better engagement in classroom activities. Exposure to diverse stories and ideas stimulates creativity and imagination, allowing children to explore new worlds, characters, and scenarios.

Maths

Bring maths into everyday activities that you do together at home will support maths in the classroom and the desire to discover a world of numbers, shapes and patterns.

Counting as you do everyday tasks, for example; counting out knives and forks as you set the table, counting stairs as you climb them or counting toys as you get them out or put them away. Looking for numbers around the home, and when you are out and about, for example; numbers on the bus, on prices in shops, on toys and games.

Spotting shapes in the supermarket, or on road signs or in everyday items around the home, and identifying the properties of shapes; how many corners, how many sides or edges.

Patterns can be found in nature, in gardens, on wrapping paper, on buildings and in fabrics to name a few. Look at the shapes and colours you can see and notice how they repeat.

Fun

Make sure you have lots of fun too. Enjoy playing and sharing activities that they love, going on adventures to the park, beach, woods or places local to you and laughing lots – we love to hear all about the things you do at home. You can always share some pictures with us too if you want to.
