Term 1 - Through the Ages

Throughout this project, we will learn about British prehistory from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, including changes to people and lifestyle caused by ingenuity, invention and technological advancement.

English

During our topic we will explore a range of texts including historical narratives and instructional texts. With each genre we will identify its features, use of language and vocabulary and learn to use these effectively to create our own texts. These include using adverbs, prepositions, imperative verbs and a range of punctuation including inverted commas.

We will continue to use Sir Linkalot spelling strategies - remember your child can practise at home. Lists will be placed in homework books each week.

This term we will be enjoying a range of texts about 'Through the Ages' including the fantastic book, 'Stone Age Boy' by Satoshi Kitamura and 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King. Through reading we will develop our VIPERS skills. We will continue to read a range of our own books both at home and at school, completing a quiz on Accelerated Reader after each book. Each child is working towards their personalised reading target.
