Year 3/4 - Bloom Class

Welcome to Bloom class!

This year our class is named after the wonderful poet

Valerie Bloom.

These are a few of Valerie Bloom's published books.

Listen to some of Valerie Bloom's poems.

“Poetry brings people together, to belong to one family. I want people to feel that.”

Valerie Bloom

Term 3

Throughout this project, we will learn about the features and characteristics of Earth's layers, including a detailed exploration of volcanic, tectonic and seismic activity.

During our topic we will explore a range of texts including haikus, cinquains and narrative poetry and persuasive writing. With each genre we will identify its features, use of language and vocabulary and learn to use these effectively to create our own texts. These include using alliteration, personification and rhyme and a range of punctuation including inverted commas.

We will continue to use Sir Linkalot spelling strategies - remember your child can practise at home. Lists will be placed in homework books each week.

This term we will be enjoying a range of texts about 'Rock, Relics and Rumbles' in order to develop our topic knowledge. Our guided reading text this term is the inspiring book by Jamia Wilson'Young, Gifted and Black'.

We will continue to read a range of our own books both at home and at school, completing a quiz on Accelerated Reader after each book. Each child is working towards their personalised reading target. Remember points mean prizes! laugh
