Tuesday 12th February Boys Football League match
It was the turn of the boys squad to participate in their first league match today against Charlton. The A team played first and were always in control of the game. Their confidence grew which resulted in a goal in the first half. The whole team just carried on in the 2nd half with a great all round team performance, with the final score 3-1 to River.
The B team also played against Charlton. The whole team enjoyed the experience of playing in a league match, using the skills that they have been developing in training. However they were unfortunate to lose 4-0. Well played to all of the squad!
Monday 11th February Girls Football League match
Our girls team played in their 1st league match today. The girls were a little nervous and excited! The first half went well for them as their confidence grew so did their football! We were very unlucky to be 1 - 0 down at half time. The whole team tried their best, never giving up but Deal Parochial proved just to strong for them in the 2nd half. The final score was 5 -0 to Deal. The girls didn't let their heads go down and are very much looking forward to using the experience and confidence that they gained from this match as they complete their league games. Well done to you all!
Thursday 17th January 2019 Dover Athletic Community Trust Tournament
Our football team competed in this event for the first time this year. It was a freezing cold day but the team started well winning their first game 5-0! An unlucky result in the next game saw them lose 1-0. Next was the match of the tournament, which resulted in a draw, both teams River and Temple Ewell played some excellent football, passing the ball fluently. The boys battled hard in the final match however were unlucky to finish on the losing side. The team finished in 3rd position. Well done to all involved!
Tuesday 6th November Graham Stabbs Cup
Our football squad participated in the 1st round of this cup today. The A team played first and against the run of play The Downs scored first. The whole squad worked really hard to get back into the match levelling the score just after half time. Despite battling hard throughout the 2nd half River were never able to take control of the match and finished on the losing side 1-3 to The Downs.
Our B team then enjoyed their first experience of representing our school at football. Once again the whole team put in a fine performance, passing the ball fluently and gaining in confidence. The score changed hands a few time but once again River ended on the losing side 1-2 to The Downs. Well played to all involved!
Tuesday 16th October Northbourne Park Football Tournament
Our A team played in this tournament and having been to the final in 5 out of the 6 past, the boys were under some pressure to maintain our high standards. In the group stages the boys won 4 out of 5 games only conceding 1 goal. They progressed to the Semi-Final against Sandwich and produced a fluent display of football, winning 2-0. In the final they faced a very good Hornbeam team. They drew 0-0 and after extra time the deadlock was still not broken. The penalty shoot-out saw River victorious with the boys bringing home another trophy!
Wednesday 10th October McCarthy Cup 1st round
The A team took part in this knock-out cup competition at Green Park school. This was their first competitive tournament as a team. After only two training sessions the boys certainly tried their best. They played some good football at times, winning 2 matches, drawing 2 and loosing just 1. Unfortunately this was not enough to take them through to the next round, but definitely look a promising team! Well done boys!
